Audi TTRS

Audi TTRS

The Audi TTRS was not meant to be the first in depth build for me. In fact that title was meant to go to it’s bigger sister the Audi R8 but when my contact gave me a call that he had found a spec that was worth a look I found myself taking the first flight to Durban from Pretoria the next day.

The deal was closed and 24 hours later I was embarking on the most epic 700km journey back to Pretoria in one of the most exciting drivers cars in my opinion. The story of the cars collection is for another day though. We will be looking at how we went from stock to our current form that the car is in 2 years later and also the costs and mods involved along with some times.

Stage 1.0

The daily setup was meant to get my foot in the door on the platform. The DS1 may seem like an expensive option but the fact that it comes with Off the Shelf maps for Stage 1 to Big Turbo setups makes it cheaper in the long run.

  • Fuel: Flex Fuel (E70)
  • Tune: DS1 OTS Stage 1
  • 100-200: 8.55 seconds (Dragy)

At this point the catch cans may also be more of an option rather than a must.

  • DS1  R25,086.33
  • Silly Rabbit Motorsport Flex Fuel Sensor Kit  R5,169.89
  • Unitronic TCU Stage 1   R7,485.21
  • Iroz Motorsport Engine Catch Can  — R9,084.06
  • Iroz Motorsport DSG Catch Can — R6,946.66

Total: R53,772.15

Stage 2.0

The street setup was a bit more of a commitment but it lays a solid foundation for your future builds. At this level we focus on improving airflow, cooling and slightly improve fuelling.

  • Fuel: Flex Fuel (E70)
  • Tune: DS1 OTS Stage 2
  • 100-200: 7.87 seconds (Dragy)

Tune was customised by Darin to eliminate the check engine light and eliminate the waste gate rattle.

  • Iroz Motorsport Intercooler (800HP)  R34,734.33
  • G-Force Customs Intake  R11,097.50
  • Sharp Motorsport MPI Injector Set (980cc)  — R7,492.12
  • G-Force Customs Downpipe and Mid Pipe  R8,500.00
  • DoubleD CEL Delete & Waste Gate Rattle Fix  R967.80
  • Unitronic TCU Stage 2  R10,999.00

Total: R66,535.48

Stage 3.0

For this setup I opted to go straight to the big turbo but run it on the stock motor. This obviously meant that the turbo was running well below it's full capability just to be a bit safe.

  • Fuel: Flex Fuel (E70)
  • Tune: DS1 Custom Tune by Darin
  • 100-200: 5.61 seconds (Dragy)

At this point I opted not to install a methanol kit but you can definitely get a bit more power and consistency when doing multiple runs by installing one at this point.

  • Cool Boost Stage 2 Methanol Kit — R10,650.00
  • G-Force Customs 1000hp Kit  R113,160.00
  • Mac 3 Port Electronic Boost Control Solenoid  R1,552.50
  • Brisk Racing Spark Plugs  R3,450.00
  • Motul 300V  R2,127.50
  • G-Force Customs Low Pressure Fuel Pump  R15,000.00
  • Iroz Motorsport Fuel Line Kit  R14,970.35
  • DoubleD Full Frame Turbo Tune  R10,754.62

Total: R161,014.97

Stage 3.5 (Coming Soon)

This is the logical next step before I push for more power out of the build. I just have not gotten enough time to get started with the engine build but this is the next step.

  • HPerformance Ethanol Engine Pack — R69,305.42

Total: R69,305.42

Stage 4.0 (Coming Soon)

Once the engine has been built it will be time to go all out with the fuelling and turning up the boost. At this point steps to reinforce the build that I might have gotten away with not doing i.e. mounts will be worthwhile to do.

  • Injector Dynamics ID1300-XDS Port Injector Set — R20,250.87
  • Injector Dynamics Plug and Play Adaptor Kit — R1,893.54
  • Unitronic Dogbone Engine Mount (Stage 4) — R9,794.28
  • BMP Tuning BFI Stage 2 Engine Mounts R13,200.56
  • BMP Tuning BFI Stage 2 Transmission Mounts R7,259.23
  • DCT Clutch Coupling Race HD1100 DQ500 0BT — R37,359.55
  • Iroz Motorsport Flywheel — R31,263.20
  • Sharp Motorsport 4 Bar Map Sensor Kit — R3,257.66
  • Unitronic TCU Stage 3R2,781.86

Total: R127,060.75

Conclusion

There are obviously many paths and steps you can take to building your DAZA that could result in quicker times in a shorter turn around time than the journey we took and here are also many more parts and modifications you could add into the mix to make your car shoot to the moon.

I look forward to hearing about your builds and the path that you took or that you are planning on taking.
