BMW M240i

BMW M240i

The BMW M240i is the car that started it all for me. It introduced me to the performance modification scene and allowed me to test the waters as to how one could go about squeezing a bit of power out of a sports car.

The moment I figured out that where the platform was it was not thee best place for my hobby of drag racing I quickly made thee decision to jump onto a platform that would give me the competitive edge so my time on this platform was rather short.

With that being said I had a lot of fun times on the platform and the hooning that was done on this platform was an itch I had to scratch.

Stage 2.0

At this stage the aim was just to get a foot in the door and learn a bit about how the modification game worked and how it affected the performance of the vehicle. A lot of fun was had at this stage.

  • Bootmod3 License + OTS Map Bundles  R10,000.00
  • xHP License + Map Pack  R6,185.50

Total: R16,185.50

Stage 2.5

The commitment to buying the Dorch HPFP upgrade was definitely a strange one at this time considering that most we're opting for hybrids, meth and a good tune but I had ambitions to go big turbo and I was trying to lay the foundation by addressing thee fuelling issues and restrictions from the stock setup.

  • Fuel: Flex Fuel (E85)
  • Tune: Bootmod3 Custom Tune by JordanTuned
  • 100-200: 8.51 seconds (Dragy)

This stage was also my first experience with a custom tune and tuning the car on the road with a tuner. It was also my first experience running E85 and where I got hooked on it.

  • Dorch Engineering B58 Stage 2 HPFP Upgrade  R39,400.00
  • JordanTuned (E85)  R9,521.19

Total: R48,921.19

Aesthetics

It's fair to say that for this build I was really focused more on making the car look good for myself while slowly getting into the ins and outs of how the performance modification games worked.

  • M Performance Alcantara Steering Wheel II with Carbon Fibre Trim and Race Display  R25,859.77
  • Carbon Fibre Front Lip  R9,500.00
  • M Performance Carbon Fibre Tips  R10,350.00
  • M Performance Silencer System  R15,274.40
  • Carbon Fibre Mirror Caps  R500.00
  • M Performance Tyre Bags  R1,532.89

Total: R63,017.06

Conclusion

The time that I spent on thee B58 platform was cut short by my new found love for drag racing but enough fun was had and mistakes made on the platform to know how to go about the next build.

This is a platform that I think I will return to one day and put a proper effort into building a quarter mile beast.

Budget: R128,123.75
